According to the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO), there are over 2 million people who hold a real estate license in the United States. Now, not all of these people are active realtors, but a lot of them are. With over 2 million agents and over 106,000 brokerages operating in the US, there is no shortage in real estate advice. However, it is important to do your research on different brokerages and individual realtors to see who can help the most.
How do you know if you have a good realtor? Here are a few things you should ask yourself when you hire a realtor:
- Are they knowledgeable about the real estate market?
You want to ensure that your realtor keeps up with current market trends. Knowledgeable agents will be able to explain every part of the real estate process to you in a way that makes sense. They will answer any and all questions you may have to make certain that you understand every part of the process.
- Do they communicate well?
Communication is a big part of any relationship. A good realtor will truly listen to what you have to say and find solutions to any of your concerns. They will keep you informed during the whole transaction and be available to answer questions.
- Are they honest?
A good realtor will put your interests first, but will also be honest with you. If you’re planning to sell your home, they will tell you what should be done to increase its value. If you’re looking to buy, they may tell you to wait a year or two to purchase if you’re not finding anything that works for you in the current market. Sometimes the truth hurts, but a realtor that truly has your best interest in mind will be open with you.
