Enjoy Family-Friendly Fun at Smith Mountain Lake State Park
From May 27th to May 30th, 2022, enjoy a host of family-friendly activities at the beautiful Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Events will span three days, so you can pick a day or attend all three! The weekend will kick off with a welcome campfire. Over the three days, activities will include a concert in the park, crafting unique souvenirs to take home, and child-friendly crafts down by the water at our swimming beach. The beach opens every day at 11 am, and regular beach parking fees apply. Most of the activities will be free of charge! Kids are welcomed. Come have some family fun starting at 11 am on May 27th. D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA
To honor the historical significance of Memorial Day, look no further than the D-Day memorial in Bedford, VA. The memorial is located in Bedford because it’s the town that sustained the highest D-Day losses per capita in the country. This Memorial Day, they will host speaker Dave Carey who is a retired Navy captain, a Vietnam veteran, and a former POW. His story will shock and inspire you, especially his experiences as a POW, which he has written a book about! Dave Carey’s book will be available to buy, and he will conduct a book signing after he speaks. Gates open at 10 am, and free admission until noon! Bring your own chair!
